Bitten by the Racing Bug?
It sneaks up on you, the racing bug, and it bites some people harder than others. Everyone eventually gets bitten, but the reaction differs. Some sailors scratch it a bit and get over it. Others get an extreme reaction and can be consumed by racing fever.
Have you felt the bug bite? Have you ever been out for a relaxing sail, but as soon as you get close to another boat, something starts to come over you? Do you find yourself tugging at the mainsheet and barking at crew to trim the jib as you gain on ol’ Joe who is just fifty yards ahead of you? Whether or not you realize it, you’ve been bitten and the itch is building.
Have no fear! Your club has just the remedy for what ails you. A newly overhauled racing program for this year promises to help you scratch that itch with some education, coaching and a series of monthly one-day regattas. Also on the schedule are one-design centerboard races using STEP’s Catalina 14.2 boats. Don’t be bashful; all sailors are welcome regardless of experience level. The race committee wants to introduce more sailors to racing. You’ll find that it is not only a lot of fun, it also builds sailing skills that you can use in any kind of sailing.
So take a look at the racing schedule and upcoming events and join us for what promises to be a fun season. Looking forward to seeing you!Pat BoyarskiRacing Committee
