Join the WVSC ‘Learn to Sail’ Program

We offer Adult and Youth Classes and teach all levels



2018 Summer STEP Program Dates   The club’s STEP program will host various “learn to sail” clinics and camps this summer for both adults and youth.

The two adult sessions will solely focus on keelboat instruction.  The main topics covered in the class will include sailing instruction on the water, boat maintenance, what to look for when purchasing a boat, boat safety and wind/weather conditions.  Instruction will be on a Catalina 22 and a Sonar.  The dates and times are as follows:

Session One: May 18th – 21st 

Session Two: May 24th – 27th.

Thursday and Friday 6:00pm to sunset and Saturday and Sunday 9:00am to 1:00pm.

The youth program will have three sessions to accommodate sailors coming to the program with varying degrees of sailing experience.  They are as follows:

Session One for the Beginning Sailor: June 4th, 5th, 7th & 8th.  This session is for the sailor new to sailing or with very little experience.  Instruction will be on Prams, Optis and Sabots.  For ages 8-12.

Session Two for the Beginning/Intermediate Sailor:  June 11th, 12th, 14th 15th, 18th 19th 21st, 22nd This session is for the returning sailor that has some experience sailing or is a repeat camper or an older beginning sailors.  Instruction will be on Catalina 14.2’s.  For ages 12 and up.

Session One and Two will be from 10:00am to 4:00pm

Session Three for the Advanced Sailor:  July 9th, 10th 11th & 12th. This session requires approval from the instructor and is for the advanced sailor.  Instruction will be on Lasers or the equivalent.  This is a fast paced, intense course focused on racing strategies, team racing, match racing and sail trim.  Sailors will compete in the club’s Wednesday night racing program during the week of the camp.  This session may be taken by youth and adults. There are a limited number of club Lasers, it is recommended that sailors bring their own boat.

Session Three will be from 4:00pm to sunset.

Official enrollment forms will be emailed to club members and placed on wvsailing.com
